This is a beautiful brass handmade Japanese box from the late 1800s made by craftsmen famous for this kind of very collectable work.
The box has original brass flower and bird appliques over the sides and on the lid, all finely detailed and very lovely little featured details of birds and flowers in panels. All the sides are decorated and the hinge is slightly to one side which means the top is slanted and the front edge opening is slightly ajar. The hinge is nice and strong and it opens nicely. It is 1.9 inches across and just under 1 inch high. These are lovely collectable little boxes of lovely skill and this has age related wear and patina.
As an antique item it will show signs of age and patina.
