Silver Bachelor Button - Gorgeous Victorian West's Patent
Silver Bachelor Button - Gorgeous Victorian West's Patent
This is a lovely West's Patent bachelor button from the Victorian era. It is likely to be silver fronted and has gorgeous etching to the front. To the rear is the sun motif for West's and a good spring loaded removable stud piece. It springs open into two pieces and is in lovely working order measuring 1 inch across.
Although these buttons were made by various firms the greatest and most prolific manufacturer was George West. The design was excellent and examples remain in working condition today (as above). The principle of the mechanism is of two winged projections which, when depressed, release their hold on a central shank so that the back and front are completely separate and can be easily put through various thickness of shirt and collar before being snapped firmly together. These studs are dated to a limited period between 1870 and 1890.
This is a gorgeous gift for a wedding or special occasion.
As a vintage or antique item, it will show signs of wear and patina.
