This is a wonderful Indian antique - a silver betel leaf holder. The betel leaf and areca nut are regarded as auspicious symbols of hospitality, and denote a moral, social, and legal commitment. Malay culture and tradition hold betel nut and betel leaves in high esteem, evident through their use in many social and religious ceremonies.
It is a highly decorative piece with repousse and a fine flower design to the rear amongst all kinds of complex detail. It has a flower design set of holes to the base.
This has a lovely set of hallmarks to the base and measures 3.5 inches high and a lovely weight 37.6 gms and is a very fine piece.
As a vintage or antique item, it will show signs of wear and patina.
