It is a lovely stereoscopic picture which is erotic of the period. Stereoscopes use two nearly-identical images, each taken a few inches to the side of the other. When viewed through two lenses set 2.5 inches apart, approximately the space between the eyes, the result is the illusion of a three-dimensional picture. In fact, stereoscopes are seen as the precursors to 3D entertainment. This is by William H Rau of Philadelphia and Liverpool and only sold by Griffith & Griffith and titled An Up to Date Woman
This is a lovely picture of a partially dressed lady with her back to the camera and her leg on a chair and her hand apparently down her pantaloons! It is in lovely antique condition with foxing and a lovely sepia colour.
It is a very rare and very charming piece which will display beautifully, particularly framed and measures 7 inches across.
As a vintage or antique item, it will show signs of age and patina. This is a lovely very old item.
