Antique Staffordshire Pottery Pastille Burner - Lovely Small Victorian Cottage
Antique Staffordshire Pottery Pastille Burner - Lovely Small Victorian Cottage
This is a wonderful original Victorian Staffordshire cottage which is designed to be used as a pastille burner.
A pastille burner is a device that burns aromatic pastilles to create a sweet-smelling perfume and remove bad odors. They were popular in the 1800s and were used to deodorize homes during the Industrial Revolution. This is a very sweet example of some considerable age, likely to be mid Victorian or earlier. It has some wear including damage to a chimney and crazing and some chips and loss to the interior of the lid. The roof acts as a lid and lifts off fully to reveal the burner cavity inside and there are two holes through the chimneys for the aroma - of course, perfectly useable for incense. It is a very old piece with the above listed and also minor hairline and little losses to corners etc. measuring 3.5 inches high.
As a vintage or antique item, it will show signs of age and patina. This is an authentic and old piece which would make a wonderful gift.
