Antique Mauchline Victorian Language of Flowers Birthday Book
Antique Mauchline Victorian Language of Flowers Birthday Book
This is a beautiful Victorian birthday book incorporated with The Language of Flowers. It is a lovely rare piece with a beautiful wooden back and front with a view of Totland Bay on the Isle of Man. The interior is partially completed with some lovely ink script entries including a 1901 dedication to the front. It has all the flower language details on the pages for each season and beautiful verse for each one too - it is a stunning piece.
The piece is in lovely condition with minor wear to the front and back and the cloth spine shows some minor splitting to the edges. The interior is nicely presented with a small looseness to one part and all pages attached with some looseness to the end pieces. It measures just under 4.5 inches high
Floriography is the language of flowers. All flowers hold different meanings, often based on the type of flower, the colour of the flower, or both. And floriography is the art of communicating through different flower types.
The production of box-work or Mauchline ware took place from the 1820s until 1933 by the firm of W & A Smith. These pieces were extremely collectable and beautiful Scottish craftsmanship.
As a vintage or antique item, it will show signs of age and patina. This is a lovely very old item.
