Antique Mauchline Thimble Store and Pin Cushion
Antique Mauchline Thimble Store and Pin Cushion
This is a stunning Victorian little sewing etui. It is made of Mauchline ware which was a very popular craft in the 19th century. This is a piece featuring a picture of Folkestone Looking West and has a nice red velvet pin cushion to the top. The bottom part separates and reveals a little thimble plinth of blue fabric which has a nice metal sized 5 thimble on it. The piece measures 2 inches high and is in lovely antique with minor wear as expected for its age.
The production of box-work or Mauchline ware took place from the 1820s until 1933 by the firm of W & A Smith. These boxes were extremely collectable and beautiful Scottish craftsmanship.
As a vintage or antique item, it will show signs of age and patina. This is a lovely very old notion.
Please look at the photos carefully and please do ask any questions, I am happy to help.
