Antique Mauchline Thimble Etui with Charles Horner Thimble - Gorgeous Wooden Egg Secret Box
Antique Mauchline Thimble Etui with Charles Horner Thimble - Gorgeous Wooden Egg Secret Box
This is a beautiful Victorian thimble store. It is made of Mauchline ware which was a very popular craft in the 19th century. It is shaped like an egg with a very pretty faded flower motif over the two parts. The top pulls off nicely as shown as shown to reveal a Little Dorcas thimble by Charles Horner. It is beautifully stamped for size 10 and is in lovely antique condition. The egg feels lovely to hold, cool and smooth. The piece measures just over 2 inches high and is in lovely antique with minor wear as expected for its age.
The production of box-work or Mauchline ware took place from the 1820s until 1933 by the firm of W & A Smith. These boxes were extremely collectable and beautiful Scottish craftsmanship.
As a vintage or antique item, it will show signs of age and patina. This is a lovely very old notion.
